Leadership, Equality and Diversity Programme

Funded Leadership Development Opportunity

Did you know that 8.7% of the teaching population in Milton Keynes come from Black, Minority or Ethnic backgrounds and that the national figure is 6.9%.  This is according to MK Local Authority data for 2010-2014.  Of those 8.7% of teachers only 2.9% go into Senior Leadership with under 1 % going into Deputy Headship or Headship.

Much is being done to grow the supply of teachers from all backgrounds into the rapidly growing Milton Keynes, and this also needs to be the case in supporting Leadership Development in areas where there is clear underrepresentation.

The Department for Education is therefore fully funding an exciting opportunity for any teachers from black, minority or ethnic backgrounds who would like to develop their skills and confidence in exploring and securing next step leadership.

This programme is for those who are aspiring middle or senior leaders and would appreciate the opportunity to engage in a 3 day programme which explores High Impact Leadership, High Impact Teamwork and High Impact Change.  Amongst the intended benefits of the programme are:

  • Opportunities to improve skills in relation to Student Progress, Teaching and Learning and School Improvement.

  • Development of skills in Leadership of Change and Project Management.

  • Increased self-awareness and confident use of interpersonal skill.

The programme is led by Chris Holmwood, Senior Deputy Headteacher, Shenley Brook End School and Principal, Leadership and Training Centre.  For further information or to express an interest please contact him via cholmwood@sbeschool.org.uk or on 01908 524894.
